Did you try to ID the item? I've heard of people unlocking runes from white items before. Now, I've just heard that, I haven't done it. However, if it said that it was worth 109, I would try IDing it.

This is easily alleviated. All Southern Shiverpeaks and Ring of Fire Island Chain MISSIONS must have item drops with MAX stats for weapons and foci. The rare rates can stay the same.

Explorable areas have their current drops.

I'd have to say there's a bit of randomness here. Oddest gold drop I ever got was a gold staff:

Inscribed Staff of Smiting Prayers
Energy +8
Chaos Dmg: 9-15 (reg. 6 Domination Magic)
Improves Casting speed while using Water Magic skills (Chance: 20%)
Improves skill recharge (Chance: 10%)
Smiting Prayers +1 (19% chance while using skills)

Rather nice if you happen to be a Me/E/Mo

Well by the time I find anyone who wants to buy them, I could just walk out of Lions Arch and kill a few tengu for more than that.

If im not wrong Storm name indicates air magic req for wearing, elementalists either use Attunement and/or Aura of Restoration & both are enchantments which means that artifact can be sold for some nice price.

Maybe the point of a regular old gold item is to just give you some extra gold or some rare salvage items.

that might be all fine and dandy if they upped the drop rate for gold/reare items, bnut outside of a mission its like 1 gold every 3/4 hours, and 3/4 of them r either crap or have no mods at all, i hunt very high level creatures who kick my arse, but my build is set up really well that i can take about 3 of these on at a time, but if i make one mistake, boom! im dead! so its not like im just runnign through a zone killing leve 15's Cough, ettins, cough... im killing level 21's-24's, and id like to get some better items then 12, white, 2-4 purples, and maybe, if im lucky 1 crap rare...JMHO tho

One of my favorite gold items (not NEARLY so bad as some other ones) is a focus that no one could possibly use fully.

It's something very much like:

Energy +11 (requires Air magic)
Faster recharge for Death Magic (some %)
Faster recharge for Illusion Magic (some %)

So only a triple-class character could fully make use of this. I'll keep it for when they make the expansion, and the new race that allows triple classing comes out.

;-)

Hmmm... clue me in here -- I haven't played a Necro yet, but at the moment that Cesta looks pretty sweet! ... Or is Soul Reaping entirely passive?

Yeah. There aren't any Soul Reaping skills. There's a few attributes that have few or no skills at ALL associated with them, so fast casting or fast recharging them is pretty lame.

Energy Storage, Fast Casting, Soul Reaping, and even Divine Favour, to a smaller extent, have few associated skills, and a disproportionate number of those skills are elites. In a couple of these cases, there's a really GOOD skill associated with it, but often just one or two.

(Warriors and Rangers are better off: Strength and Expertise have many skills associated with them. Then again, not every class even has the same number of attributes, and Warriors feel like they have less sometimes: Not too many Warrior raise more than one of Sword, Axe, or Hammer skills.)

I have gotten many purples and golds that have no additional mods to them. I spose they have a better req but if the damage isn't high, I'd sell them anyway. kind of a bit of disappointment when you id something like that.

Wish I would have taken a SS but I didn't. It was a purple sword some low crap to like 18 dmg. (low at that end too) It had NO mods on it! I though WTF why is this even purple!?!

LMAO! That's hilarious!

So then I'd guess that the items are conjured up on-the-fly by some kind of script buried deep inside the engine (the same one that prevents my ranger from getting any decent bow drops, no doubt)... you'd think they could add a simple filter or two to prevent such abominations from spawning at all.

Granted they've got better things to worry about at the moment, but one hopes little details like that will be tidied up eventually..
